Koh Lanta Dusk Volleyball

Volleyball started that night, games were impromptu, starting at about 6 pm and lasting till the sun set. The staff as well as guests would play. It was in this way that I got to know the staff and some of the guests and I got over feeling totally conspicuous being the only lone traveller. The volleyball was great!!! One of the biggest things I missed from back home was beach volleyball and here I was on an awesome beach playing volleyball !! Through volleyball I met most of the staff: Yat, Pie, Lomak, Bon, Red, Noi, Maud, Dip who treated me very well during my stay, teaching me basic Thai and then forcing me practice by speaking only Thai to me! It was hilarious at times and frustrating at others.

Koh Lanta

Nice Beach Resort…okay resort is pushing it. In fact Nice Beach ‘Resort’ consists of 13 Bungalow style rooms, right on the beach with an outdoor dining area and places to hang out near the beach…it was barely a week old. It was built by the village’s leader in his attempt to cash in on Ko Lanta’s blossoming popularity.

Amazing Krabi, Thailand.

Wickedly Beautiful Beaches.

So I was out of my funk thanks to Becky and in the famous beach area of southern Thailand not exactly where the book “The Beach” was set, but close enough. It was in fact where some of the movie was filmed (the Kho San Road scene where incidentally my cousin Traviss and his fiancé Carly had a part!!! How cool is that?)

Traviss and Carly were actually the ones who recommended Krabi to me…I am forever in their debt for learning about such a place and the recommendations they gave me for in and around the area. It was their favorite place in Thailand and now mine! Actually it is my favorite place in the world! Not so much the town itself but the whole area and what it has to offer: the proximity to tropical beaches and remote islands with millions of things to see and do on the cheap! Figure in the excellent food and the friendly Thai people and it all added up to an amazing experience!!!

Penang, Malaysia – Krabi, Thailand. November 12th, 1999

Becky

The day I left Penang is when things turned around for me. I jumped on a minibus headed for Krabi, Thailand and on that bus were three travellers from England. One of the three was a young woman, Becky, who was travelling on her own. It took me fumbling with my visa papers at the Malaysia/Thailand border to finally break the ice (two hours into the bus ride) and when we got back on the bus after immigrations, Becky and I came to sit together and chat.

In hindsight, anyone I would’ve talked to at that point would have turned things around for me as I was in such need of connecting with other human beings doing similar things as I was but it turned out to be Becky. We chatted, light and fluffy stuff at first but more in depth as the bus ride passed. I was able to tell her my woeful experience to date and how my expectations were not being realized. She in turn laid my fears to rest by ensuring me that I would indeed have absolutely no problems meeting people. “You’ve met me haven’t you?” She assured me.

Today 4 islands tour by Long Tail Boat. No more speed boat, cos this is complimentary tour from our ASEAN package by Peace Laguna Resort. (speed boat tour more expensive) Is good also, giving us a new experience. The one sitting on wheel chair is an Australian, the girl beside him is from Thailand. Maybe is his tour guide. Didnt ask, but she is taking care of him during this trip. They also staying in Peace Laguna. Because of him, you can see the good side of human. People is helping each other although we all coming from different country and different color of skin. Both the tour guide and our European tourist carry and help him to up and down from boat on every stop. Of course, I did help as well, just I am to slip to carry him. So, I only helping in carry his wheelchair ^^  from this direction, this island really looks like a turtle for me ^^ (It is actually 2 separated island)

Again~ International buffer breakfast before our today activity ^^  1 hour elephant trekking. Of course, we not riding by our own. Every elephant has 1 trainer following us. The trainer is actually sitting on their head, and tourist sit on the tighten seat. Is not enjoyable as I thought, as elephant is walking slow and it is actually very swaying while they are moving. Somemore has nothing to do other than talking and taking photo. Anyway is a experience to sit on elephant ^^ We also have photo section and elephant feeding after back to their “base”. But we didnt feed them, cos we have to pay them for banana and feed their elephant… … No way!

Trip to Krabi with my latest baby – the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro (Part 2)

Posted By : Ben

So here’s a continuation of Part 1 – my recent trip to Krabi, Thailand where I put my latest baby, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro to the test! I’m trying out something new, no modification of pics or vids whatsoever – just straight from the phone – resized for web use and that’s it! So all pics & vids in this blog were taken using the phone alone… no MSG added :P

We went BIKING! YEeha!
If it was just bicycles, it wouldn’t be something to shout about BUT it was a motorbike! I’ve gone on one of these things once but with Stella, I was a little apprehensive… you know, her safety… and plus when you’ve got 2 people on a bike, it can be a little heavier – I had so many worries – from us falling to us not being able to stop… but heck… we rented one for 25 ringgit a day!

Our beautiful green thing – I shall call it Moly from now on. So we rode Moly along the streets of Krabi –
nothing further than the main stretch – so I think I was going in circles – in that 2-3km beach front area?
