Paradise Found!! –  Koh Lanta, Thailand.

Koh Lanta Dusk Volleyball

Volleyball started that night, games were impromptu, starting at about 6 pm and lasting till the sun set. The staff as well as guests would play. It was in this way that I got to know the staff and some of the guests and I got over feeling totally conspicuous being the only lone traveller. The volleyball was great!!! One of the biggest things I missed from back home was beach volleyball and here I was on an awesome beach playing volleyball !! Through volleyball I met most of the staff: Yat, Pie, Lomak, Bon, Red, Noi, Maud, Dip who treated me very well during my stay, teaching me basic Thai and then forcing me practice by speaking only Thai to me! It was hilarious at times and frustrating at others.

Some of the ‘couples’ turned out to be pretty cool as well! I met a great couple from Paris: Julian and Valerie whom I ended up hanging out with quite a bit. Also Ami from Isreal and his girlfriend Deanna from New York. We all explored the local cave (which I ended up seeing three times) and Ami, Deanna and I went to a Thai boxing match among other activities and of course would always make it back for the 6:00 volleyball game!

Koh Lanta TransportationThere was a constant stream of people coming and going from the resort from all parts of the world and once I felt comfortable, I made a point of trying to get to know most of them. Nice Beach Resort actually wasn’t that big (13 bungalows) and had the cozy atmosphere that allowed a person to get to know other guests. I met a great older couple from Sweden who had spent their life farming(and travelling) and were now on an extended trip that included scuba diving! They were in their 60’s!!!! I also met three incredibly attractive Scandinavian women Line(pronounced Leen eh) and Chalotte(pronounced Sha Lot eh) from Denmark and Chris from Sewden.

I ended up hanging out quite a bit with Line and Chalotte once Chris headed home. Us three and a British computer geek who was also staying at Nice Beach would eat together play cards nightly and explore the Island during the day or just lie on the beach. It was a great relaxing couple of days.
