TAT seeks marketing ‘Bright Spots’ in difficult global tourism environment

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has unveiled a multi-pronged strategic marketing campaign for 2009-10 that will build on the country’s long-standing strengths such as its geographical location, value for money factor, good image and excellent range of products and services.
The strategies range from stepped up online-marketing efforts focussing on social media to short-duration packages targeted at nearby and neighbouring countries and intensive pursuit of new markets and niche-products.
The strategies and campaigns were unveiled to the Thai tourism industry private sector at the end of the TAT’s annual marketing plan meeting on June 29. This period is particularly important for the TAT which will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding in 2010.
TAT expects 14 million arrivals in 2010

The Tourism Authority of Thailand expects the industry to improve next year, generating income of 959 billion baht and attracting 14 million foreign arrivals. Of this income, 530 billion baht would come from foreign tourists, with domestic tourism contributing 429 billion through 90 million trips – up from 388 billion and 87 million trips last year.

About two million visitors are expected to take advantage of some of the world’s best medical treatment services and facilities in Thailand in 2009, according to estimates by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Department of Export Promotion (DEP).
Thailand boasts some of the world’s best health and wellness centres offering high standards of both preventive and curative treatment.There are 30 hospitals in Thailand which are now ready to service foreign patients nationwide. Some of the better-known ones among them are the Bangkok Medical Centre, Phyathai Hospital, Samitivej Hospital, Rama 9 Hospital, and Bumrungrad Hospital.
Thailand Waives Visa Fee As Part Of Drive To Revive Tourism

Continuing its efforts to expedite the revival of the Thai travel and tourism industry, the Royal Thai government has agreed to exempt the fee for tourist visa applications for a three month period, effective 5 March, 2009 to 4 June, 2009.
Thailand presently gives Visa on Arrival for citizens of 20 countries for a stay not exceeding 15 days. Citizens of another 42 countries are allowed a visa-free stay in Thailand not over 30 days. Those who wish to stay longer than those periods have to apply for visas at the Thai embassies or diplomatic missions abroad before their arrival in Thailand.
