It was my first night as an independent traveller. I had made it to Penang, proud of myself for figuring out the logistics of getting there from KL…and getting there cheaply. I searched the streets of Penang for a hostel mentioned in the Lonely Planet and booked myself in. All in all a good day. Did some exploring during the day and then returned to my room to settle in for the night. It was midnight, I was still reading a great novel I had picked up at the airport Street Lawyer I believe it was or some other Grisham novel about lawyers anyhow I was heavily into it when I noticed a little orange coloured bug scurry across the page. I flicked it away and thought nothing of it.

I should point out here that I refer to Kuala Lumpur as home. That is not to scare anyone into thinking I’m staying but more reflects how comfortable Norm and Lory have made me feel here. I know the trip would not be the same without their kind hospitality and I will fondly remember my many days in KL…especially The Neil Diamond tape that always seems to get played in their little Proton(Malaysian car). Me listening and really enjoying Neil Diamond…who’d a thought? Anyways, I am humbled by their generosity and at odds as to how I could ‘return their investment’ in me. I guess for starters I could try to keep my room a little neater . J

The new Kuala Lumpur-Abu Dhabi route, operated by the carrier’s long-haul affiliate AirAsia X, will begin on Nov 23 with five weekly flights in time for the peak travel season for Muslims, it said in a statement. AirAsia X Chief Executive Azran Osman-Rani said it indicated the group’s expansion plans were on track despite the global economic slump. The airline sees a potentially lucrative market in Abu Dhabi, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates with a population of 2 million – of which more than 80 per cent are frequent traveling expatriates, he said. ‘

He or she is constantly faced with considerable uncertainty regarding a decision and may have only scanty ideas about the place he or she visits, most probably due to the limited awareness and collected information. Different alternative of travel such as by air, sea or overland are evaluated against the criteria of wellness, budget and time constraint.
